What kind of event is this? Spotlight Hours are small 60-minute events that take place every Tuesday. You can expect a Pokémon that is in the spotlight and appears in very large numbers.
In addition to the Pokémon, the event also offers a bonus that is active during this time and can give you more experience points, stardust or candies.
All spotlight hours in August 2024
When do the spotlight hours run? The spotlight hours take place every Tuesday. They start at 6:00 p.m. and run until 7:00 p.m. You can find out on which dates in August 2024 you can find the respective Pokémon and bonuses in the table below.
Spotlight hour on August 6
Which Pokémon is the focus? Rotomurf, the Ground-type Pokémon from the 5th generation, awaits you in the spotlight hour on August 6th. It has an evolution with Excadrill.
Which bonus is active? During this Spotlight Hour, you’ll earn double experience points when you catch Pokémon, regardless of which Pokémon you catch.
Is the event worth it? With the evolution of Rotomurf, Excadrill, you get a very strong ground attacker that can also be found in the list of the strongest Pokémon in Pokémon GO. So you can use this event to catch one or two strong specimens.
The Crypto variant of Rotomurf is also already available, so you can use the spotlight hour to collect some candies for it as well.
Can you catch shiny Rotomurf? Yes, you can also find the shiny version of Rotomurf if you are lucky.
Spotlight hour on August 13
Which Pokémon is the focus? On this day, you can meet Lilyep in the spotlight hour. The Pokémon is from the 3rd generation and has the Rock and Grass types. You can evolve it into Weelie.
Which bonus is active? If you catch Pokémon during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of candy for it. The bonus applies not only to Lilypad, but to all Pokémon you catch.
Is the event worth it? While Wielie can still be found in the top 100 of the Super League, it doesn’t play a role in the other leagues. Unfortunately, Liliep and his development aren’t worth using in raids either.
The catch bonus might be the most interesting option here if you have collected Pokémon from field research rewards for which you were waiting for such a bonus.
Can you catch shiny Lilypad? Yes. If you’re lucky, you might also encounter the shiny version of Lilypad during the Spotlight Hour.
Spotlight hour on August 20
Which Pokémon is the focus? Menki, the monkey-like Pokémon from the 1st generation, will be the focus of the spotlight hour on August 20. The Pokémon has the Fighting type and can evolve into Primeape and then into Electabuzz.
In addition to being a Fighting type, Epitaff also belongs to the Ghost type.
Which bonus is active? If you send Pokémon during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of candy for it. This bonus can be really worthwhile if you have accumulated Pokémon for such a bonus or your Pokémon box is full.
By the way, you can already tag Pokémon in advance up until this spotlight hour to make it easier and faster to send them during the event.
Is the event worth it? Unfortunately, Menki and its evolutions are not very strong for use in raids. However, its final evolution, Electabuzz, can reach its full potential in the Battle League.
In the PvPoke rankings, Electabuzz is ranked 53rd in the Master League and 27th in the Ultra League. If you want to get the most out of Electabuzz, you should use it in the Great League. Here it ranks 3rd and is only surpassed by 2 other Pokémon.
The bonus of double the number of send candies is also very strong, so you shouldn’t miss out on this spotlight hour.
Can you catch shiny Menki? Yes, you can also find shiny Menki if you are lucky.
Spotlight hour on August 27
Which Pokémon is the focus? Magnemite, the electric and steel-type Pokémon from the first generation, is the focus of this spotlight hour. It can evolve into Magneton and then into Magnezone.
Which bonus is active? If you evolve Pokémon during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of experience points for it.
Is the event worth it? If you bring Magnemite into its final evolutionary form, Magnezone, you can look forward to a strong electric attacker for your raid teams. Its Crypto variant is even stronger. You can also collect a lot of candy for this during the event.
Magnemite and its evolutions are not worth using in the Battle Leagues. You should use other Pokémon for that.
If you have collected a lot of Pokémon that you want to evolve, you can also use the event to double the experience points you receive for this.
Can you catch shiny Magnemite? Yes, Magnemite is already available in the game as a shiny Pokémon. With a bit of luck, you can encounter the monster in this form.
