According to Antti Kuronen, a foreign journalist based in Tel Aviv, everyday life in Israel’s big city is starting on Monday in a very normal way.
‘s foreign editor Antti Kuronen is in Tel Aviv, Israel, following the aftermath of the Iranian attack. According to him, everyday life in Israel’s big city is starting very normally on Monday.
– Yesterday, all gatherings were prohibited and school buildings and venues remained closed. The restrictions were supposed to continue today, but they were lifted late last night, Kuronen tells in the morning.
According to Kuronen, people in Tel Aviv have taken the prevailing situation quite calmly.
– They are very satisfied, perhaps even proud, that Israel, together with its allies, managed to stop the Iranian attack. At the same time, they admit that they are worried about what this conflict with Iran could still lead to.
It was Iran’s first direct attack on Israel. In the past, it has attacked Israel only indirectly through organizations it has armed, such as Hamas, which runs the Gaza Strip.
Israel is therefore now in a completely new situation, and it has shocked the Israelis, says Kuronen.
There are currently around 300 Finns who have filed a travel declaration in Israel. According to Kuronen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has so far not given instructions to Finns to leave the country.
– People are allowed to draw their own conclusions about the situation. Air traffic in Israel has been restarted after a break of a few days.
Israeli retaliation likely
So far, it is not clear how Israel will react to the Iranian attack.
– After the attack, the immediate reaction of many in Israel was that the attack will be responded to quickly and strongly. The country’s military council held a long meeting on Sunday evening. The message from the Council was that there will be an answer, but the scope and timing have not yet been decided.
According to Kuronen, Israel has to consider its next step very carefully.
– Surely something will happen at some point, but the date is still unclear.
