Tapani says that the news about the sale of the series came as a surprise to him.

– I have talked a little with the Finnish players. There is still very little information about what will happen. I have to start figuring things out and see what happens next season. It’s never nice when something like this comes this late and changes all plans. These are things that you can’t influence yourself, it doesn’t help if you start to find out.
In the 2022–2023 season, Tapani focused on ringette and won the SM gold with RNK Flyers. He signed with the Riveters in May.
– There was no information about this when I made the contract. There was an idea that the series would run like last season. I knew there was possibly another series coming, but those were more rumours.
Tapani was supposed to prepare for the season in Finland and travel to the United States during the season.
– Fortunately, the information came at this point, so maybe you can make new plans.
Tapani also sees positive things for women’s ice hockey in a surprising situation. The series sale is based on the goal of implementing a hockey series for the 2023–2024 season, which brings together the world’s best female ice hockey players.
– It’s really good to have one really competitive series, that way we could maybe get more sponsors and others involved. In terms of the future, it’s a really good thing for the sport, but we’ll see how my own career progresses from this.
