Release and price

How much will the Switch 2 cost? The official price is not yet known. The price for the old switch was 319 euros (LCD) and 349 euros (OLED). We assume that the Switch 2 will cost more than the old model. Speculations estimate the price to be between 400 and 500 euros.

When is the Switch 2 released? An official date is not yet known. However, more information is scheduled to be announced at the Nintendo Direct on April 2, 2025. Possibly the official date too.

Nintendo Switch 2: Hardware, Specs and Performance

LCD or OLED? This is not yet known at the current status. Many are hoping that Nintendo will opt for an OLED display, because colors look much better on an OLED display and black is really black. The upgrade to the OLED version is definitely worth it, especially for players who mainly play in handheld mode.

How much power does the Switch 2 have? So far, Nintendo has not released any official benchmarks or information about the built-in hardware. Current leaks suggest that the performance of the Switch 2 should be between the Steam Deck and the PS4 Pro.

In hard numbers: The Steam Deck offers a performance of 1.6 teraflops (TFLOPS for short), the PS4 Pro offers a performance of 4.2 teraflops. The Switch 2 should be between the two consoles mentioned in terms of performance. You can read about the importance of teraflops for players on MeinMMO.

Nintendo Switch 2 vs Switch 1: Specs in comparison

What hardware does the Switch 2 have? At this point in time (as of January 20, 2025), Nintendo has not yet announced any information about the hardware. All possible specs for the Switch 2 come from leaks and rumors, including howtogeek.com. This means that the data and specs can change at any time. The Switch 1 data, however, is officially known:

Nintendo Switch 2 vs Steam Deck

Is the Switch 2 better than the Steam Deck? According to rumors, the Switch should offer more performance than the Steam Deck: The Steam Deck offers a performance of 1.6 TFLOPS, but the Switch 2 should deliver 1.72 TFLOPS in handheld mode and even 3.09 TFLOPS in docking mode. Mind you, these are all just rumors that Nintendo has not yet confirmed.

Nintendo Switch 2 vs PS5

Is the Switch 2 better than the PS5? No, when it comes to pure performance, most likely not. Here the PS5 offers significantly more performance:

  • The Switch 2 is said to deliver 1.72 TFLOPS in handheld mode and even 3.09 TFLOPS in docking mode.
  • The normal PS5 has a performance of 10.28 TFLOPS.
  • The PS5 Pro, which was released at the end of 2024, has 16.7 TFLOPS.
  • However, if other things are important, such as flexibility or child-friendliness, the Switch 2 should perform better than the PS5: The Switch 2 still offers a handheld mode and Nintendo offers a much more extensive program for children.

    Nintendo Switch 2: games, compatibility

Will there be exclusive titles for the Switch 2? Yes, Nintendo wrote in the first trailer that there would be exclusive games for the Switch 2. These will probably be so-called system sellers who ensure that players buy the new generation. A game where we can easily imagine exclusivity is Pokémon Legends: ZA, which has been announced for 2025.

Which games are compatible with the Switch 2? Most games from the first Switch generation are also compatible with the Switch 2. Both memory cards and digital games should be compatible.

However, Nintendo notes that some games are excluded from compatibility. These are probably games that rely on special hardware or components. The new Joycons are probably too big for many sports games.

This may also apply to the popular Ring Fit Adventure: MeinMMO editor Benedikt Schlotmann completed fitness training with his Switch for several weeks. And that worked surprisingly well. Benedikt explains why this helped him a lot in everyday life: I ran 50 kilometers with the Nintendo Switch and now feel fitter than I have in four years
