GEO HISTORY BAC. The specialty subjects of history-geography, geopolitics and political science for the 2022 baccalaureate were unveiled on Wednesday May 11 and Thursday May 12. The latest HGGSP fixes will be unveiled very soon…
[Mis à jour le 12 mai 2022 à 18h25] It’s over ! The history-geography, geopolitics and political science test (HGGSP), counting for the 2022 baccalaureate and scheduled over two days from this Wednesday, May 11, ended this Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the end of the day. Two groups of baccalaureate candidates worked in turn on a dissertation or a study of documents.
The proposed HGGSP topics required an in-depth knowledge of certain parts of the program: after the conquest of space and the United States and the environment on Wednesday, the dissertation topics today focused on “maritime spaces” such as ” object of rivalry and cooperation” and “the new forms and logics of war in the 21st century”.
A third subject of HGGSP was unveiled this Thursday by the Ministry of Education: the critical study of documents which this time focuses on “uses and representations of the environment”. Yesterday Wednesday, a first group of candidates had already worked on the subjects of History-geo for the 2022 baccalaureate and had to work for their part on “the evolution of the forms of war”.
Three subjects in history, geography, geopolitics and/or political science are in fact offered in total during the specialty test, all on different themes to allow candidates to choose the theme on which they wish to be assessed. A decision that is very important because the history-geography specialty test counts as coefficient 16 in the final mark of the baccalaureate. Especially since the HGGSP specialty is one of the most commonly chosen among high school students.
With our partner Studyrama, we are offering below for each day of the HGGSP baccalaureate specialty test a proposal for an answer key that allows candidates to discover the answers or in any case the milestones that should be followed in their copy.

What are the subjects of the 2022 history-geo specialty test?
The very first subjects of HGGSP, those of Wednesday, May 11, offered the choice, in dissertation, between “The conquest of space from 1957 to the present day: rivalries and cooperation” or “The United States and the environment in different scales”. A critical document study was also among the possible choices for the history-geography test, the candidates had to comment “the evolution of the forms of war” based on a print by Johann Lorenz Rugendas (1775-1826): “The great battle of Austerlitz, beginning of the 19th century” (document 1) and the extract from an interview with US Special Forces Commander Stanley McChrystal (2003-2008) in the journal Foreign Policy in 2011 (document 2).

This Thursday, the candidates were able to choose between “maritime spaces, the object of rivalry and cooperation” and “the new forms and logics of war in the 21st century” for the dissertation. They could also opt for commenting on documents relating to “uses and representations of the environment”. Two supports were proposed: a text from the Ministry of Agriculture on the status of “Protective Forest” and dating from 2020 as well as a capture of the home page of the site of the National Parks Foundation in the United States. Through a partnership with Studyramathe subjects are published in their entirety below, in particular with the detail of the documents used for the critical study.
The subjects of the HGGSP test of Thursday, May 12 :
For the HGGSP baccalaureate, candidates are expected to construct a dissertation, develop a detailed argument and carry out a critical study. The history-geography specialty test takes place over 4 hours and is divided into two parts. The first is a dissertation and the second a document study, it can be a photo, a text or a map. The two exercises are compulsory for all candidates, but the ministry has provided for an adjustment: a doubling of the subject of the dissertation. For the first part of the test, the candidate therefore has the choice this year between two different dissertation subjects, each relating to a theme of the program.
The document study, on the other hand, covers another theme studied during the year so that three themes out of the four probable ones are approached. While this may have appeared to be a greater dose of work during revisions, this instruction is above all intended to offer candidates the best chance of success.
What are the dates of the 2022 baccalaureate history-geo exam?
The history-geography test was normally to take place, like all other specialty education exams, in March, but the Ministry of National Education has decided to postpone the series of tests to May to prevent certain candidates are penalized by the consequences of the Covid-19 epidemic on the school system.
It is therefore between May 11 and May 13 that the tests are held, and that of history-geo was scheduled for this Wednesday May 11 and Thursday May 12, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
When will the results of the history-geography test be published?
The results of the history-geography specialty test will be available on July 5, at the same time as the results of the other tests (French, philosophy and grand oral). The fact that specialty courses are evaluated one month earlier does not affect the publication of the results.
