According to reports on Sky News, 3 young children were among the 5 people injured in the stabbing incident that took place outside a school in East Parnell Square in Dublin. Irish police also said in a statement that a “serious incident” involving multiple young children occurred outside the school.
5 PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO HOSPITALS
Police stated that five people, including three young children, a man and a woman, were taken to hospitals in the Dublin area.
Irish police noted that one of the children and the woman at the scene were treated for serious injuries, while the other two children and the man were treated for less serious injuries.
The police launched an investigation into the incident. Irish public broadcaster RTE also reported that the injuries were due to a suspected stabbing.
THERE WAS A MISTAKE, THEY SET IT ON FIRE
Following the stabbing of 5 people in Dublin, tension arose between the Irish police and the protesters who gathered near the area where the stabbing occurred.
The group, which held an immigrant man responsible for the stabbing, set fire to a police vehicle and tram and attacked some police officers.
Protesters also damaged many vehicles.
Irish police announced that a person in connection with the stabbing attack was detained and that this person was treated for serious injuries.
“WILL NOT BE TOLERATED”
Irish Justice Minister Helen McEntee said in a statement: “The horrific attack that took place in Dublin city center today is a horrific crime that has shocked us all, but the scenes we witnessed in our city center this evening cannot and will not be tolerated.” she said.
McEntee underlined that “a rogue and manipulative element must not be allowed to use a horrific tragedy to wreak havoc.”
