The Senegalese Sadio Mané, the Moroccan Achraf Hakimi, the Nigerian John Mikel Obi and the Ivorian Didier Drogba participated in the draw.
First African nation in the Fifa ranking, Morocco, semi-finalist of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will be one of the favorites for the next CAN. Just like Senegal, defending champion who was not spoiled by the draw with a difficult group.
12 former winners in the running
Crowned in 2019, Algeria will be eagerly awaited in Ivory Coast. The Fennecs, led by their coach Djamel Belmadi, will want to redeem themselves after their elimination in the first round during the previous CAN and their non-participation in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. They find themselves with Burkina Faso (finalist in 2013 against Nigeria), Mauritania and Angola.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will try to win the competition for the sixth time after 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 and 2017. While Nigeria, winner in 1980, 1994 and 2013, will be present in Ivory Coast to try to win a fourth star.
Logically, Mohamed Salah’s Egypt and Ghana will start as favorites in Group B where there are two Portuguese-speaking selections: Cape Verde and Angola, which organized the CAN in 2010.
Six stadiums have been officially selected for the 34th edition of the CAN. The arenas are located in five Ivorian cities: Abidjan, Bouaké, Korhogo, San-Pédro and Yamoussoukro. The opening match will take place between host country Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.
