8th place: The Common People (Episode 6)

Rhaenyra and Mysaria.
  • IMDb rating: 6.2 / 10 stars
  • Number of reviews: 46,280
  • With few options left, Rhaenyra embarks on a risky venture. She tries to turn a knight with little Targaryen blood into a dragon rider, but unfortunately he does not survive the venture.

The plan to win the common people of King’s Landing over to their side goes better. Mysaria sends ships with food, which the starving citizens are only too happy to receive.

What is the criticism? Many criticize the episode as a “filler episode” in which not much exciting happens. At the same time, the scene with the kiss between Rhaenyra and Mysaria received a lot of hate and led to a veritable review bombing.

Overall, the episode was not nearly as poorly received as the reviews suggest. The most highly rated comment on IMDb states:

People say this episode is just filler, but I would disagree 100%. House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones are often about patience. The plot takes time and builds slowly, with meaningful scenes in between that prepare us for new storylines.

Daemon swears his loyalty to Rhaenyra.
  • IMDb rating: 6.4 / 10 stars
  • Number of reviews: 26,680
  • The season finale was a bit disappointing for many, as shown by the comparatively poor ratings.

One of the highlights was probably Tyland Lannister, who has to impress the daring Admiral Sharako Lohar to gain her support.

Rhaenyra finally faces Daemon in Harrenhal, who swears his loyalty to her. Alicent also seems to be tired of arguing and offers Rhaenyra a surrender from Aegon.

What is the criticism? The main criticism of the episode is that the expected climax is missing.

As a viewer, I feel a little cheated. I spend all my time waiting for a climax, only to be treated to another setup episode. [also eine Episode, die nur zum Aufbau dient] being left behind after watching setup after setup after setup.
