In total there are more than five hundred species of trees in the municipality and that number is growing. “When a tree is felled, we often replant a different species,” says Rob Vermeulen, tree expert at the municipality of Utrecht. “In this way we try to make the population more resistant to the warming climate.” The trees that are most common in Utrecht are the ash, the oak and the linden. “All three are trees that grow well in the city and can withstand climate change.”
