Forsmark 1 and 2 were forced to shut down their electricity production on Wednesday as a result of a short circuit at Svenska kraftnät’s Hagby station, north of Stockholm.
The short circuit caused a major power outage in the Stockholm region and contributed to sharply increased electricity prices throughout the country on Thursday.
Friday night
Late on Wednesday evening, Vattenfall announced that Forsmark 1 is ready for restart. The facility will supply electricity again starting Thursday morning.
Forsmark 2 needs to be checked further and will not be put into service again until Friday evening, according to Vattenfall’s forecast.
The third reactor, Forsmark 3, was not affected by the blackout.
