Both passenger cars and large trucks with containers passed in and out of Gävle harbor when the checks were carried out. The work involved a broad effort towards the traffic that passed, and motorists also had to do sobriety checks.
The border police were also on site and checked, among other things, that foreign drivers had the right to drive in Sweden. At the same time, the traffic police checked the safety of the vehicles and the port’s security service checked people’s authorization to the port.
On weapons and drugs: “We get a bargain”
However, no targeted efforts were made, neither against weapons nor narcotics.
– But we get that in the bargain when we do these checks, says Johan Rekke at the Customs Office in Gävle.
The idea is also that the control should be a deterrent.
– So that you don’t feel sure that we will never show up, says Johan Rekke.
