In 1994, he founded Akelius Fastigheter AB, which would later become Akelius Residential Property AB. The company owns and rents apartments in Toronto, Paris, London and New York, among others. Today, Akelius Residential Property AB is owned by the charity organization Akelius Foundation, which in turn was founded by Roger in 2007. The organization primarily donates to children in need, refugees, and education.

The deal would not go as Akelius had planned. In connection with the publication, Akelius had told SVT that he wanted to fundamentally change the independent school group.
– You can choose whether you want dividends or education, said Akelius in an interview with SVT.
– I can imagine that the Akelius Foundation should pay to these schools just to raise the quality. And then Akelius doesn’t want to donate money to the school if the money will then go to dividends, to capitalists like me and others.
This statement caused Mellby Gård, the largest owner of Academedia, to change its mind, and today the company is still the largest owner of Academedia.

Does Roger Akelius have children?
Roger Akelius has two sons, a daughter and seven grandchildren, according to an interview with him in Affärsvärlden 2021.
In 2010, Akelius and his daughter ended up Anna-Maria Fuxén in public quarrel about money. According to The Express Akelius had claimed that Fuxén demanded 20 million kroner from him, whereupon he had agreed to give her 8.4 million kroner.
Today, he chooses not to bring his children into the limelight.
