Fouad Youcefi is the US correspondent for SVT
The journalist Fouad Youcefi since 2020 has been USA correspondent for SVT. Youcefi is based in Washington DC where he covers American politics and North America.
In 2021, he was host of SVT’s in-depth program about politics, “Politikbyrån”. He also led the election vigil in Sweden in 2022.
Youcefi reported from Washington during the storming of the Capitol and covers the 2024 US election between the presidential candidates Kamela Harris and Donald Trump.

Fouad Youcefi was born on January 11, 1989 in Algiers, the capital of Algeria. This means that he turned 35 in 2024.
When Youcefi was one and a half years old, the family moved to Västmanland.

Youcefi grew up in the town of Sala and began his career as a journalist at the age of eighteen when he started working in the summer at Sala Allehanda, something he has talked about in recent years with the newspaper.

Fouad Youcefi attended the journalism program at Mittuniversitet between 2008 and 2010. In an interview with his old university, he says that it took him a few years to establish himself.
– It took me a few years to establish myself in the industry, but now that I’ve succeeded in that, I want to keep reviewing, and keep delivering unique stories about people that you might not often hear about in the news, he told Central University.

In an interview with Dagens Nyheter, Youcefi is asked why the parents moved to Sweden.
– They came to Sweden as refugees. The reason I feel a little uncomfortable talking about it is because I know too little about it, he told the newspaper then, and continued:
– Both my parents studied at the university and had finance jobs of various kinds, so they were definitely not working class, but here I get uncomfortable again, because I don’t know.
He also says that his father, like himself, became interested in football. Youcefi played for Ransta IK between 1995 and 1996.

Has Fouad Youcefi played football?
Youcefi has played football for a number of different clubs. He started his career in Ransta IK, and then moved to Ransta-Grällsta Alliansen where he played in 1997.
He then played for Sala FF’s boys and junior teams between 1998 and 2004, Sala FF A-team 2004 to 2006, Heby AIF 2006 to 2007, GIF Sundsvall/Medskogsbron 2008, Sund IF 2009-2010, IFK Timrå 2010 and Juventus IF 2011-2012.
