In mid-September, Vainio ran a half marathon, setting a new women’s Finnish record (1.09.30). At the time, he said that since he didn’t qualify for the Paris Olympics marathon, the Berlin marathon is his main goal for the season.
Vainio didn’t have a real time goal for the Berlin competition at the time, but he was confident that at the end of September he will be in better shape than he has ever been before.
