Simon Waern (S), who recently resigned as deputy chairman of the municipal board in Alingsås, has applied for severance pay, reports GP.
“I wish to apply for the compensation that I, as a former municipal councillor, am entitled to according to the current regulations,” he writes in an email that was sent to the municipal board in Alingsås last Saturday.
Waern left all his political posts last week after GP revealed that he and Daniel Filipsson, former moderate and chairman of the municipal board, spoke inappropriately about other politicians in secret chats.
According to the current regulations, he can receive just over one million kroner in so-called adjustment support, which corresponds to 85 percent of 18 months’ monthly remuneration, GP writes.
Both the Liberals and the Left Party oppose payments to the departing politicians.
– It is completely unreasonable to pay out almost three million to two people who so grossly damaged Alingså’s reputation and trust, says Marcus Wallin (V) to the newspaper.
The Liberals’ group leader in Alingsås, Jens Christian Berlin, thinks that such large severance pay is eye-popping.
– It would have been decent of them not to apply and ask to receive the payments, he says.
In the chats, they expressed themselves mockingly and grossly sexist towards other politicians and officials.
