With Alien – The eerie creature from an alien world in 1979, director Ridley Scott gave the starting signal for one of the most popular sci-fi horror series ever, which has produced six films and two crossovers with the Predator series in over 40 years.
The seventh film in the science fiction series will follow next year after a 7-year break. The new Alien film is called Alien: Romulus and will be different from the previous chapters of the Xenomorph saga. Who is behind the new Alien film?
After the last two Alien films were directed by franchise founder Ridley Scott himself, this time he is only involved as a producer. The creative force behind Alien: Romulus is genre specialist Fede Alvarez, who with Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe has an eye for effective horror thrills and bloody gore has proven.

The screenplay for Alien: Romulus was written by Alvarez in collaboration with Rodo Sayagues. The two previously worked together as co-writers on Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe and Don’t Breathe 2. For the last one, Alvarez even left Sayagues to direct.
Reboot or sequel? This is known about the plot of Alien: Romulus
The next Alien film is supposed to be a independent reboot be. That means: It is neither a direct sequel to the first four films about Ellen Ripley, nor a continuation of the prequel films Prometheus – Dark Signs and Alien: Covenant.

Alien: Romulus is the first film in the series to be made after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Fortunately, original plans to stream the film on Hulu were scrapped. Instead, the Alien reboot will be shown on the big screen – next year.
Alien: Romulus will be released in German cinemas on August 15, 2024. It is not yet known whether the double strike in Hollywood will have any impact on the film’s release.
