During her visit to Algeria, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders Mary Lawlor urged the Algerian government to release “all rights defenders imprisoned for exercising their freedom of expression , opinion and association”. Eleven human rights organizations followed suit calling for the release of imprisoned activists, the repeal of repressive laws and the protection of civil society organizations.
