Alex Norén leads on the PGA tour after the record round: “It was a long time ago”

61 strokes and ten under par was the result for Alex Norén after the first day in Bermuda.
A new personal best on the PGA Tour for the Swede who leads the competition.
– I am very happy, says the golf star.

Alex Norén has won ten times on the European Tour but never on the US equivalent. Maybe now is the time?

Swedish dream start

At least the Swede got off to a dream start at the PGA Tour event in Bermuda. Eleven birdies and only one bogey gave him a -10 on the scorecard – his best round in 510 attempts on the PGA Tour.
– I’m very happy. It was great to reach ten under par. It’s been a long time since I went really low so it feels good, says Norén according to AFP.

The 41-year-old from Stockholm has shown emerging form towards the end. Last month he finished tied for third in Las Vegas.
– It felt good in Vegas, I had a chance to win but didn’t take it. At least I’ve put myself in a better position for next year.
– It has been a very strange year. Last spring it was very tough mentally. Autumn has been pretty good and I did some good races on the European Tour last winter.

New top listing

Norén was not alone in breaking records in Bermuda. Adam Long missed the fairway on the 15th hole. Before that, the American had hit 69 in a row – a new top mark on the PGA Tour.
– It was fun to have a little extra to play for, it made Thursday a little more exciting than usual, says Long.

Other Swedes: David Lingmerth (–3), Henrik Norlander (–2) and Jonas Lightning (+4).

Play was suspended for darkness when a few players had a couple of holes left.
