A far-right conspiracy theorist in the United States Alex Jones has been ordered to pay $4.1 million for defamation to the parents of a child killed in a school shooting.

Jones, who is known as the front man of Infowars, a fake media that blames conspiracy theories, claimed for years that the 2012 Sandy Hook elementary school shooting was a hoax. According to Jones, behind the staging of the school shooting were activists pushing for stricter gun laws in the United States.

Jones also claimed that the child’s parents were part of staging the massacre.

The parents of a 6-year-old boy who died in the shooting told the court how supporters of Alex Jones harassed them and sent them death threats for years because they believed the parents had lied about their son’s death.

In his own testimony, Jones apologized and admitted that the Sandy Hook massacre was real.

The jury in the Texas trial is scheduled to decide on Friday whether Jones will also have to pay so-called punitive damages to the parents.

Jones is involved in two other lawsuits in which other Sandy Hook parents are seeking compensation.

28 people died in the Sandy Hook elementary school shooting.
