Muhammed Wafid, one of the officials of the Indonesian Geological Administration, made a statement about the Ibu Volcano, where there have been explosions since last week.
Wafid stated that the warning level was increased from 3 to 4, the highest level, as a result of the investigation of the volcanic activities of the volcano on Halmahera Island in the state.
Authorities warned local people and tourists not to engage in any activity within 7 kilometers of the 1325-meter-high Ibu Volcano.
As a result of the eruption of the Ibu Volcano on May 13, ash clouds formed in the surrounding area.
The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) noted that the volcanic ash emitted by the volcano during the eruption reached a height of approximately 5 kilometers from the summit and that the explosion lasted 5 minutes and 6 seconds.
There are approximately 130 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is in the “Pacific Ring of Fire” earthquake and volcano belt. (AA)
