Alec Baldwin files for ‘speedy trial’

Actor Alec Baldwin has been given a first trial date after being charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. He will appear in court on February 1.

At the same time, the actor is applying through his lawyer for “a speedy trial”.

“Mr. Baldwin is entitled to a fair and expeditious disposition of the allegations to minimize suspicion and public vilification and to avoid the difficulties in proving his innocence that often arise after long delays in prosecutions,” Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro report.

It was during the filming of the movie “Rust” in October 2021 that Alec Baldwin, 65, fired a shot that killed 42-year-old photographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

The revolver, which was supposed to be loaded with loose rounds, turned out to be live loaded.

Baldwin was also charged in January of last year, but that charge was dropped. At that time, the crime classification was causing the death of another.
