In the opinion piece, almost ninety councilors and several mayors express themselves extremely strongly about the government’s much-discussed asylum package. This aims to get rid of permanent residence permits, shorten the duration of temporary permits and declare parts of Syria safe. “The opportunities for newcomers to contribute are being undermined and the deportation of our fellow villagers and townspeople is threatened. This is unacceptable to us,” the councilors write.
