It was before last season that Albin Ekdal signed for Spezia after four seasons in Sampdoria.
Spezia went out of Serie A, but even though there have been games in a lower division, it has been slow for the 34-year-old. In his nine appearances, Ekdal has not managed a point and now the Italian club announces via its website that they have chosen to break the contract by consensus.
“We wish him the best of luck in the future,” writes the club.
The midfielder played his last game in the Swedish national team jersey at the end of November.
