(Finance) – The US airline Alaska Airlines he decided to cancel all flights on 737-9 MAX aircraft through Saturday, January 13, as it conducts inspections and prepares for return to service. This is equivalent to 110-150 flights per day. “We hope this action offers customers a little more certainty and we are working around the clock to welcome affected customers back on other flights,” it said in a statement.
Last Friday a piece of the fuselage broke off from an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 shortly after takeoff from Portland, Oregon, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing.
As of today, Wednesday January 10th, Alaska Airlines keep waiting for the documentation by Boeing and the FAA to begin inspection of the 737-9 MAX fleet.
“We apologize for the significant inconvenience caused to our guests by the cancellations due to these aircraft being out of service,” Alaska Airlines said. “However, the safety of our employees and customers is our top priority and we will only put these aircraft back into service when all problems have been completely resolved and will meet all rigorous FAA and Alaska standards.”
