In its shadow budget for 2024, the MP drops for the first time the requirement to reintroduce the plastic bag tax.
– We do not have it in our budget, says the party’s economic policy spokesperson Janine Alm Ericson.
– It was the Liberals’ tax proposal in the January agreement and therefore we let them continue to stand for it or not stand for it.
According to Janine Alm Ericson, the MP believes the tax has worked and “is actually good”.
The party has also criticized the government for scrapping the tax, which will come into force in November this year.
At EU level, the requirements for reduced plastic bag consumption are gradually being tightened. In 2025, the goal is for the number of plastic carrier bags to end up at 40 per person per year.
In 2023, the figure was 17 in Sweden.
– The government is responsible for the tax policy and they still owe the answer how to live up to the EU directive, says Janine Alm Ericson.
