Belgium bans disposable wipes – first in the EU
Single-use e-cigarettes are banned in Belgium on January 1.
– Disposable e-cigarettes are a new product that is only there to attract new customers, says the country’s health minister Frank Vandenbroucke.
Belgium thus becomes the first EU country to ban e-cigarettes, so-called vapes, for single use, which have become very popular, not least among young people.
– E-cigarettes often contain nicotine. Nicotine makes you addicted to nicotine. Nicotine is bad for health. Those are the facts, says Vandenbroucke.
The disposable products contain plastic as well as a battery and other electronic components that are thrown in the garbage or in nature, which is bad for the environment, states the Belgian minister.
Vejps are becoming increasingly popular in Sweden as well. Sales of liquids for electronic cigarettes were roughly six times higher in 2023 compared to 2021, according to a recent report from CAN, the Central Association for Alcohol and Narcotics Information.
