Alain Gomis gives back his voice to Thelonious Monk

Rewind and play, literally “Rewind and play”, is the new film by Alain Gomis. It is a documentary that reassembles the rushes, the unused images, of a program shot in December 1969 for French television. During a visit to Paris, and at the end of an exhausting European tour, the virtuoso pianist Thelonious Monk, took part in the recording of “Jazz portrait”, a program then presented by Henri Renaud, himself a pianist and good connoisseur and admirer of the African-American artist.

By reassembling the images, by playing on the sound and the framing, Alain Gomis makes the viewer feel all the discomfort of Thelonious Monk, and the media production of an image of an eccentric pianist.

Also showing in our cinema this Saturday: journalist and author Thierry Jousse who has just published a book on the soundtracks films (EBA editions).

And the report of our correspondent in Israel Michel Paul on the film Cinema Sabaya.

Musical breaks : Thelonious Monk around midnight and Duo Ruut Nightingale.
