Al-Qaeda leader Amin ul-Haq has been arrested by Pakistani anti-terrorist authorities in the state of Punjab. He is accused of planning “sabotage activities that targeted important installations” in the country.
Among other things, Ul-Haq has been in charge of security for the terrorist network’s now-dead leader, Osama bin-Laden.
“The arrest of Amin Ul-Haq is a major victory in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in Pakistan and globally,” said a statement from Punjab’s counter-terrorism authorities.
Ul-Haq was arrested in Pakistan back in 2008. Three years later he was released and the Pakistani authorities then claimed that it could not be proven that he had links to al-Qaeda.
After the Taliban took power in Afghanistan in August 2021, he appeared in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. In August, he is said to have visited Afghanistan again to reorganize al-Qaeda, according to Pakistani authorities.
