During Friday, several party leaders have announced that they are snubbing the festivities since it became known that Russia’s ambassador has been invited to this year’s award ceremony.
Åkesson already briefly announced on Thursday that he will not go to the party, since he was invited for the first time as party leader for SD as a result of a new practice.
On Friday, however, he comes down hard on the Nobel Foundation’s board, saying that the foundation is managed by “a bunch of, at best spineless, at worst deliberately abusive individuals” who let party politics rule the guest list.
“To be clear, I completely disregard your ‘party’ and do not intend to ever, under any circumstances, prove it,” he writes.
At the same time, he says that the Nobel Foundation should apologize, among other things, to the Ukrainians, not to him.
