Åkesson was awarded the Nobel Prize – but Bo Broman is free to go

The Sweden Democrats’ party leader Jimmie Åkesson will not receive an invitation to this year’s Nobel festivities either this year.

Someone who is invited, however, is party colleague and new chairman of the Riksbank’s executive committee, Sweden Democrat Bo Broman.

In an email to TV4 Nyheterna, the Nobel Foundation writes that it is a “number of official representatives of state institutions who are traditionally invited regardless of party affiliation.”

TV4 Nyheterna has also sought Bo Broman, who does not want to give any comment until he has received an official invitation.

Åkesson has never been invited to the Nobel party and the fact that the party is now part of the government’s foundation and Sweden’s second largest party does not change the decision. The SD leader himself is not particularly sad about not being invited.

The Nobel Foundation has also previously received criticism for inviting the Iranian ambassador to Stockholm. Something that, among others, Ardalan Shekarabi has reacted to. In a post on Twitter, he questions that Iran’s ambassador is invited while people in Iran are being murdered for demonstrating for their rights.
