The AirTag is a small button-shaped tracking device with a glossy white front, which can be personalized with a engravingand one back silver. AirTags are designed around the CR2032 batteries they contain and require additional accessories to attach to an object.
In April 2021, Apple unveiled its long-awaited AirTag after years of rumors and speculation. This little tracking circular is designed to be attached to objects such as keys and wallets to allow these accessories to be tracked by Bluetooth alongside Apple devices in theapplication “Locate”.
How does an AirTag work?
AirTags are added and managed in the Find My app under the Objects tab that Apple introduced in iOS 14.3. As with other devices Apple, each AirTag is displayed on a map in the Find My app so you can see its location. AirTags connect to your iOS and macOS devices via Bluetooth. Apple has built a U1 chip into every AirTag so you can see its precise location indoors or outdoors if it’s nearby, or its last known location if it’s not. Built-in speakers allow you to play sound to find a lost AirTag in the house, and you can either play sound via the “Localize” application, or ask siri to find an AirTag with a sound.
If a Air Tag is lost or stolen, the “Find” network can help you find it. This network takes advantage of hundreds of millions of iPhone devices, iPad and Mac to help you locate an AirTag, with the AirTag appearing on a map when located by another person’s device. In “Lost” mode, an AirTag automatically sends a notification when it is detected by someone in the “Find me” network, and you can add your contact details so that the person who finds your object can contact you.
Apple may periodically update the software AirTags and has done so many times since their launch.
