Ukraine has attacked an airfield in southern Russia with long-range US drones, Russia claims, vowing to respond with “appropriate measures”.

Six Atacms robots were used when Ukraine tried to hit the military airfield in the port city of Taganrog, located in the southern Rostov region, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

According to the reports, all the robots were either shot down or deflected, but shrapnel reportedly caused some damage to military vehicles and nearby buildings. No people are reported to have been injured.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously hailed “tangible strikes” against Russian targets last night, writing on the messaging app Telegram that Ukraine had hit military facilities on Russian territory.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously threatened to fire a hypersonic robot at central Kiev if Ukraine does not stop attacks by Atacms robots on Russian territory.

A US official says that in the “coming days” Russia could launch an Oreshnik robot, a hypersonic robot of the same type that was launched in a recent high-profile attack on the city of Dnipro.
