New reports point to new, inexpensive AirPods headphones in production at Apple.
Analyst Jeff Pu reportedly got his hands on confidential information related to new upcoming AirPods. According to recent sources, Apple is preparing several products to come “later this year” including wireless headphones that are more affordable than the current range of AirPods. The latter would certainly arrive before the next iPhone in September.
This is not the first time that a note or report mentions the development of AirPods Lite (unofficial name). In January 2023, Jeff Pu already revealed that Apple would have been preparing new headphones at reduced prices for some time, in order to compete with competing brands which are increasingly offering inexpensive products. These AirPods Lite would therefore be planned for this year alongside a new generation of AirPods Max equipped with a USB-C port.
Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg and Apple specialist, also corroborates this information by specifying that the Apple firm would prepare several types of AirPods to come with at least two different versions.
These new AirPods Lite could therefore well replace the famous second generation AirPods released in 2019 and still displayed in the Apple catalog. The new range of AirPods headphones would consist of:
- AirPods Lite
- AirPods 3
- AirPods Pro 2
- AirPods Max
Neither Jeff Pu nor Mark Gurman have specified the price of these new AirPods Lite. The analyst, however, estimates that Apple could launch these headphones at a base price of $99 in the United States, which is the current price of AirPods 2 at many retailers.
