A small single-engine plane crashed and got stuck in live power lines on Sunday evening in the US state of Maryland.

Two people traveling in the plane are said to have escaped unharmed in the crash. But the high voltage lines are still live and technicians must first ground them before the pilot and passenger can be rescued from the plane.

More than 80,000 households lost power in connection with the crash, which occurred in the city of Gaithersburg, about 39 kilometers northwest of Washington DC.
