AIK further in the Swedish cup – after extra time thriller against IFK Norrköping

AIK was ready this weekend for a return to the women’s league. They followed up that triumph today by securing a place in the group stage of the Swedish Cup. And they did it after great drama.

After a late Norrköping counter, the score was 2-2 at full time. In the subsequent extra time, the visitors then looked to have secured the victory when Sabina Ravnell made it 3-2.

Two goals in two minutes

Then AIK stood for a huge turnaround. After goals in the 118th and 119th minutes by Jennie Nordin and Adelisa Grabus, AIK made sure to secure advancement to the 2024 group stage.

– Absolutely incredible effort by the entire team. We go out and drive without respect, says Adelisa Grabus, who scored two goals, to SVT Sport.

Jennie Nordin picks up.

– I don’t know what to say about this match, one of the sickest you’ve played actually. There was a bit of talk from Norrköping that we are not ready for the women’s league yet – but the match must speak for that.

Hammarby continues simply: “Special”

Elsewhere in Stockholm, Hammarby was also able to secure a place in the group stage. The match away to Enskede finally ended 6-0 to Hammarby.

Matilda Vinberg, recently selected in the national team squad, was thus pitted against her old club and became the scorer in the first half.

– It was special but very fun to be back, she tells SVT Sport and continues:

– It is clear that you want to score against your old club. But I had quite a lot of respect for it so it wasn’t like I was celebrating.
