In the restart of the Hockey Allsvenskan, the last derby of the year between AIK and Djurgården – at least in the basic series – was a storage series – and it was a baking thing that was waiting. The home team AIK had eleven straight wins in the back and the away team Djurgården had twelve straight away wins.
When AIK coach Roger Melin was interviewed before the match, he did not think it would be a grisly match – but there he got wrong.
Only the first period offered seven expulsions. Among other things, two team penalties that were distributed for trouble after the period had been blown off.
Otherwise, large parts of the first period were characterized by an AIK pressure. Djurgården had two positions, both given to Linus Klasen, but the only goal made during the first 20 minutes came from AIK.
Jesper Emanuelsson advanced from the left drawing circle and found Daniel Ljungman in front of goal, which through Johnny Tychonick made 1-0 to AIK.
Tear start on the second period of AIK
The same Ljungman then expanded at the beginning of the second period. He turned away a Djurgårdsback and sent a shot towards goal. The puck went pretty straight on Hugo Hävelid, which was noticeably upset after letting in a second goal for the evening.
Just a few minutes later, Djurgården got powerplay and pressed for a reduction goal. Then AIK switched on quickly in boxplay and put the third through Christoffer Björk.
27 seconds thereafter Djurgården reduced to 1-3 in powerplay through Arvid Costmar. But it helped little, because with just over six minutes left of the period, they dropped the puck in the offensive zone-which ended with 4-1 to AIK through Gerry Fitzgerald.
Before the period was over, Djurgården again teased the puck, this time behind its own bag, which rendered in a fifth goal for AIK. With 47 seconds of the second period, Djurgården reduced again, but AIK entered the second period break with a three -goal line.
Went for three goals in the third period
Djurgården was clear that one would go to score three goals in the third period.
They did not succeed, though. Robert Kimby’s men managed to score two goals in the third period – while AIK scored three. Among the three goalkeepers were Daniel Ljungman, which was thus noted for a hat trick. The chain mates in the fourth chain Rasmus Rudslätt (1+2) and Oliver Tärnström (1+4) also stood for brilliant efforts.
AIK eventually won the derby with 8-4 and took its twelfth (!) Straight victory.
– It has felt good at the training last week in our chain. Then the pucks rolled in, says Oliver Tärnström in TV4’s broadcast after the match and develops around the emotions to win the derby:
– It obviously feels sick fun. I have grown up with AIK, I have gone on the derby both here and on football. I know how much it means to the fans.
