Meta launches its biggest AI investment to date, when the company’s assistant steps into Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and Whatsapp. But Sweden will have to wait.
On Thursday, the new AI assistant began appearing for users in Australia, Canada, Singapore and South Africa.
The assistant is visible directly in the Messenger chat service, where you can ask questions by tagging it. You can also use it directly in the timeline, for example to ask questions related to the posts you see. It can be anything from where to best see the northern lights to which restaurant nearby serves sushi. The search function is also built into Instagram and Whatsapp, writes Meta in a blog post.
The service also has a built-in image generator, where the image changes in real time as the prompt is typed.
Meta describes the assistant as “the most intelligent AI assistant you can use for free”, and is based on the proprietary Llama 3 language model, which is also being launched.
The new variant is based on open source code, has been trained in several different languages and is available for a variety of cloud services and hardware platforms.
It is unclear when the AI assistant will be available to users in Sweden.
