On Saturday, it’s time for this year’s edition of the Sami melody festival.
Before that, they went through the songs and joiks in three programs that Natalie Carrion, who also hosts the Sami melody festival, is holding.
In the second program, the two comedians Ahmed Berhan, who is also the host of the SVT program IFS – Immigrants for Swedes, and Isalill Kolpus, who is also the host of the NRK program Nytt på nytt and one of the few professional Sami comedians, are guests.
Berhan admits in the program that he doesn’t know anything about Sápmi, the Sami or the Sami culture, and therefore receives a not entirely serious crash lesson from Kolpus.
Learn the Sami half hour
– First something that is very good to do in Sápmi, among the Sami, and that is to deceive the state. And happy to get money from the state without them understanding that you didn’t deserve it. Number two is being late, we call it the Sami half hour. Finally, it is important how you talk to the Sami. To be admitted among the Sami, you have to be interested in their family, says Kolpus.
After the quick lesson, Berhan notes that there are similarities with his own culture.
– I realize now that it’s a shame that we didn’t have Sami people in IFS, you are clearly blackheads. It’s the same in my culture. It is often “Who are your parents?”, says Berhan with a laugh in the program.
See the program right now on SVT Play or 19:00 on SVT2. The Sami Melodifestivalen is broadcast live here on SVT Sápmi, on SVT Play and on SVT24 at 20:15 on Easter Eve.
