Jongerius was a member of the European Parliament for the PvdA from 2014 to 2024 and was also active for the FNV trade union for a long time. In 2024 she received the Bakhuis-Wolters Prize for her social commitment. The prize is an award from the Provincial Council in Utrecht and is awarded to a person who is committed to society and women’s emancipation in particular. She called receiving the award “an incredible honor.”
