The four well-known chaos gods from Warhammer have grown. A giant rat is now part of your cool quartet and causes trouble in the world in Age of Sigmar. Does she now also occur in the popular Warhammer 40,000? Meinmmo explains.
The chaos is that, now, chaotic power of the universe as a counterweight to order, which is represented by humans, elves and dwarfs, for example. The chaos strives for disorder and destruction – roughly said.
Actually, the pantheon of the dark gods in the world of Warhammer only consists of Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne and Slaanesh. In the fantasy version of the world, Age of Sigmar, a fifth God has risen.
As early as the summer of 2024, Games Workshop, the company behind Warhammer, officially confirmed the horned rat as a new chaos god. And this new god is quite all.

The god of evil rat people is the latest chaos god
The horned rat is the only god who is worshiped by the Skaven, a people of nasty giant rats. Skaven only live for the increase and to create unrest. To illustrate this: the rats have no use for gold. Nevertheless, they break it down just so that nobody else gets it.
The horned rat is exactly that: a huge rat with winding horns, the representation of which is a little reminiscent of Beelzebub. Similar to Nurgle, it stands for illness, disorder and decay. It is also the reason why Skaven can work magic at all.
The skaven have built a whole religion with rules and laws for the horned rat. They adhere to the 169 commandments (which result from 13 × 13; 13 is the holy number of the horned rat). Similar to other chaos gods, the horned rat has various “aspects”, which are more or less worshiped by individual Skaven clans:
Incidentally, Age of Sigmar is the continuation of Warhammer Fantasy, which was practically stopped many years ago. With Age of Sigmar, Games workshop has a new playground to try out content and try new things-like the horned rat as a chaos god.
Will Warhammer soon get a huge rat as a new god?
If you think: “Sounds cool, but would disturb the sci-fi setting of Warhammer 40,000”, you are probably right. And that is exactly what will not happen.
The worlds of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Fantasy or Age of Sigmar are strictly separated from each other. Although they share many aspects, they are self -contained and independent worlds. Games workshop has already emphasized this several times. Warhammer 40,000 is not the “future” by Warhammer Fantasy.
This can be seen only by the fact that Slaanesh exists in the world, although it will only be born at some point in the future by the Aeldari Hubris. Then again time for chaos simply runs different.
Nevertheless, it is unlikely that it will make the horned rat into the world of Warhammer 40,000, alone because there are no skavs there. It is not entirely excluded because Game’s workshop has all the freedom to try things out, but rats would have to be brought into space. And the latest people are currently a collection of space dwarfs: there are space dwarfs in Warhammer 40,000 and they are even harder than in Deep Rock Galactic
