Agcom: 5.85 million fine for Meta for gambling advertising

AGCOM tightens rules on video platforms to protect minors

(Finance) – The Communications Regulatory Authority sanctions Half for violation of the ban on gambling advertising, provided for by the Dignity decree, by the Facebook and Instagram platforms: the fine is 5,850,000 euros, pursuant to article 9 of the decree-law of 12 July 2018, n . 87 (so-called “Dignity Decree”). The Authority itself communicated this in a note.

“Well, great news. The ban on gambling advertising is very clear in Italian legislationbut it remains written on paper: it is systematically violated by television broadcasters and very often also through indirect forms, sponsored content on various social profiles, as we have denounced several times!”, he states Massimiliano Dona, president of the National Consumers Union. “It is also good to intervene on the platforms, even more so if they offer a real advertising service. Now we expect that social networks do even more to enhance functionality which help the user understand if a post is sponsored, remove those that are misleading or prohibited by law, such as those on gaming and smoking!”, concludes Dona.
