In 1988, the hall of fame was created to honor those who demonstrated “unselfish achievement within the realm of agriculture and service to the rural community.”

According to a recent media release, the nominees include the following individuals:

Stephen Denys, Chatham Township
Known as a passionate agriculturist, Denys has been deeply involved in the farming community in crop production, protection, marketing and seed development for more than 50 years.

Harry Lawson (posthumous), Zone Township
Lawson worked to change bylaws and regulations to benefit the agricultural community, including working towards fair settlements for gas and hydro corridors across farmland to avoid expropriation if possible.

McLean was an active learner of sustainable farming techniques. He stressed the importance of balancing agricultural land and natural cover, and emphasized using windbreaks and cover crops to reduce wind erosion.

They will be inducted during a Nov. 19 ceremony, which begins at 11 am at Hidden Hills Golf and Country Club. There will be a meet-and-greet, followed the presentation of the biographies. Lunch is included.

Each spring, the hall’s board of directors reviews the various nominations of men and women who have been submitted for consideration. Following this review, the names of those to be induced for the current year are chosen.

Last year’s inductees included Robert and Diane Devolder, Kathleen (Kay) Quinton, the late Ron Anderson and the late Doug Arbour.
