The five-member representative of Holland was disqualified from Saturday’s final. The suspected illegal threat took place on Thursday evening.
Swedish media Aftonbladet says based on his own information that the Dutch Eurovision representative Joost Klein has admitted to making an illegal threat directed at a member of the production team.
The suspected illegal threat took place on Thursday evening after the second semi-final.
Due to the incident on Saturday, the European Broadcasting Union EBU denied Klein’s appearance in the final just moments before it started. The Dutch radio and television company Avrotros commented at the time that it considers the EBU’s decision to dismount to be unreasonable. Saturday’s final saw 25 performances instead of 26.
Avrotros from early evening on Saturday told, that Klein was nervous for the photographer. According to the Avrotros press release, Joost would have wanted privacy on the way from the stage to the artists’ green room. He had repeated his wish several times. However, this wish was not respected, which is why Joost “approached the camera threateningly”.
According to Aftonbladet, Joost would have clenched his hand into a fist and raised his hand while approaching the photographer. However, Klein had not touched the woman who operated the camera.
The incident was reported to both the police and the EBU. Aftonbladet also says that the police’s investigations into the case are at an advanced stage.
