Aftonbladet / Demoskop: He won the party leader debate

Aftonbladet Demoskop He won the party leader debate

Liberal party leader Johan Pehrson won tonight’s debate.

This according to a survey by Aftonbladet / Demoskop.

– I humbly receive the Swedish people’s rating. It is a proof that the Liberals are on track, says Johan Pehrson.

On a rating scale between 1 and 5, Johan Pehrson (L) got 3.4. With that figure, he won the debate.

In shared second place came Magdalena Andersson (S) and Ebba Busch (KD) with 3.3. Then came Ulf Kristersson (M).

That Johan Pehrson won was a bit unexpected, according to Demoskop.

– We did not expect that. But he is perceived by viewers as confident in his role, says Angelica Cöster, opinion analyst at Demoskop.

Goes home to many

Another explanation for the gain is that Johan Pehrson is backed by many other party sympathizers.

– He does not really get a bottom rating from anyone else, except maybe V and MP, says Angelica Cöster and continues:

– He seems to go home with many. It is not as polarized as for many of the others.

Magdalena Andersson (S) finished in second place in SVT’s debate a month ago. It was the same result for the Prime Minister today.

– She is perceived as a statesman and inspires a high level of trust, says Angelica Cöster.

The mistrust may have benefited the Prime Minister

The political turbulence around the Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson does not seem to have been a burden for the Prime Minister.

On the contrary, it may have benefited Andersson.

– That can be it, says Angelica Cöster at Demoskop.

The survey was conducted within the framework of the Inizio panel, which reflects the Swedish people, and an online panel that is recruited through a collaboration with more than 400 websites. The target group is the voting public, 18 years and older. The survey covers 2,154 interviews during the period April 26 to May 4, 2022 and is conducted as a web survey.

If the respondent does not state a party, they are asked the following question: “Which party is it leaning towards?” and those who do not answer this either get the follow-up question “Which party do you think is the least bad?”. In the report, these three questions are combined to show the result of the party’s sympathies if there were an election to the Riksdag today.
