After Uefa’s decision: No Russian teams in Fifa’s competitions either

The news broke less than two weeks ago.

Then the European football association Uefa wrote on its website that they had decided that Russian youth teams would again be allowed in European competitions, and that what such a solution could look like.

Soon after, Fifa followed suit, referring to the Uefa decision when announcing their decision.

But yesterday there was a new message. Then Uefa announced that it was not possible to implement the change.

So how will it be in Fifa competitions? The same thing, SVT Sport can now report.

– To be able to participate in Fifa’s competitions, they must qualify via Uefa. And now because they are not allowed to play in Uefa’s competitions, they cannot participate in our competitions either, says a spokesperson for Fifa to SVT Sport.

So Fifa has not taken any new formal decision, but the consequence will be that there will be no Russian teams in your competitions either?

– Exactly. Since no Russian teams can qualify for our competitions, there is no need for a new decision.
