After the wave of protests in Iran – more and more ways are introduced to make women obey the veil compulsion

Since the protests broke out in Iran in September, women have increasingly gone out without wearing the mandatory veil, especially in major cities. And when the previous threats don’t work, more and more ways are now introduced to make women obey the veil compulsion.

– If you receive a certain number of warnings, you can have your car impounded, your bank cards blocked and even lose your job. Because now they are also pressuring businesses, says SVT’s foreign reporter Gilda Hamidi-Nia.

A propaganda video aired on state television shows women being stopped at subway barriers in Tehran and allowed to pass only when they put on the veil. Gilda Hamidi-Nia points out that even going out and showing women without a veil in a government video in Iran is remarkable in itself.

– And that’s because so many people have taken off their veils now since the protests started last fall. So now they are trying to look at other solutions to make women simply obey.
