The Paris Criminal Court will deliver its judgment this Tuesday in the Nicolas Bedos case, one month after the trial for sexual assault and sexual harassment was held.
It is this Tuesday, October 22, 2024 that the actor and director Nicolas Bedos, tried for assault and sexual harassment of three women, will know his fate. The Paris criminal court must in fact render its decision at 1:30 p.m., one month after the hearings took place. Remember that the public prosecutor had requested a 12-month suspended prison sentence against the filmmaker, accompanied by an obligation of care.
The trial of Nicolas Bedos took place before the Paris criminal court on September 26. The filmmaker was on trial for sexual assault by a person in a state of obvious intoxication and for sexual harassment in the context of three separate cases which were studied during this same hearing. During the trial, the French actor and director continued to defend himself by saying he did not remember anything. Although he admitted to being intoxicated and having “a heavy kindness” when drunk, he nevertheless denied being a “sexual aggressor”, and that he could not have had inappropriate behavior even under the influence of alcohol.
In detail, Nicolas Bedos was on trial for sexual assault by a person in a state of obvious intoxication and for sexual harassment. The trial concerned three separate cases: first, a complaint of sexual assault which allegedly took place during an evening at a nightclub in Paris, on the night of June 1 to 2, 2023. The complainant, a young woman 25-year-old, accuses the director of having walked towards her, head down, before extending his right hand to her genitals over her pants. “His eyes scared me,” she said during the hearing, visibly moved.
Two other women became civil parties during the trial last September, even though they had not filed a complaint. One, a waitress in a Parisian bar, accuses Nicolas Bedos of sexual assault. The facts allegedly occurred in a nightclub, on the night of May 11 to 12, 2023. She denounced an unauthorized kiss on the neck after being forcibly grabbed by the waist. Finally, a third woman accuses him of sexual harassment and denounces the “insistent and offensive behavior for which Nicolas Bedos apologized” during an evening, between June 14 and 15. Referring to this last case, Nicolas Bedos’ lawyer, Me Julia Minkowski, asked the court not to recognize the qualifications of assault and harassment, considering that “a kiss on the neck is unpleasant but it is not “It’s not sexual assault.” On the contrary, the prosecutor considered that “there is no ambiguity” and highlighted “worrying repetitive behavior”.
