The state must push for more money for road repairs after the recent heavy downpours.
This is the opinion of the National Association of Individual Roads, which in a letter to the government is now appealing for more support – and simpler rules.
– A great many road owners are not covered by the government grant today, says Uno Jakobsson, chairman of the association.
There is still no comprehensive picture of the extent of the damage, but in addition to the state road network, many smaller roads have been completely washed away by the amounts of rain.
And even if the Minister of Civil Defense, Carl-Oscar Bohlin (M), already promised special support
via the Swedish Transport Administration of SEK 30 million, according to the road authorities, more than that is required.
– We don’t think 30 million is enough, says Uno Jakobsson.
“The roads must work”
The association, with over 13,000 member associations, now wants to see a special regulation, similar to the one created after the big forest fires in 2014. This also made it possible for the smaller road owners to apply for government grants.
– All individual road owners who have suffered damage as a result of these violent downpours should be able to apply for grants, he says.
– The roads must work. Getting to your home or your workplace – that requires a functioning road.
