After the sea drama at Stena Scandica: “Great need for cooperation”

“There is a continuing need to develop cooperation between state, regional and municipal actors in the event of major accidents and events. Early collaboration and proactivity in complex events is needed,” says Henrik Larsson, head of unit at the unit for management and rescue services under high alert, at MSB.

300 passengers were on board

It was in August last year that a fire broke out on the passenger ship Stena Scandica, where it was not possible to steer or navigate the ship. Around 300 people were on board, most of whom had to be evacuated.

For over six hours, the ship drifted in the direction of Fårö, north of Gotland.

The investigation also highlights that “municipal rescue services need to develop their proactive thinking and action in the event of complex events”.
