After the sci fi Bond there was chaos today the 007

At first glance, you might think that James Bond is one of the most rigid franchises in film history. Fast cars, sharp tuxedos and of course a vodka martini, shaken not stirred. For over six decades These elements appear in the Bond films. However, the series is not quite that rigid.

Every Bond actor brings their own vibe. The missions also gradually adapt to the spirit of the times. Moonraker marks one of the biggest breaks. After Star Wars success James Bond also went into space at the end of the 1970s. The next film had to bear the sci-fi escalation.

Today it’s on TV: James Bond 007 – On a Deadly Mission.

On a deadly mission: After the sci-fi escapades in Moonraker, James Bond returned to Earth

Actually, In Deadly Mission was announced as the next Bond in the credits of The Spy Who Loved Me (1077), before the fight on a space station was announced at short notice unexpected stopover was inserted. The result met with divided opinions. It quickly became clear: the next Bond had to be more grounded again.

In fact, In Deadly Mission is one of the most grounded Bonds ever. Even the gadgets and exaggerated action scenes, which are otherwise celebrated with great joy, appear very focused and not too sensational. The focus is on the spy thriller and not a blockbuster spectacle with space battles.

In Deadly Mission is an exciting, gripping Bond adventure, no question. However, the film doesn’t really elegantly resolve the return to the roots of the series. Just the effort Following on from the previous films Finding it often seems awkward. One scene in particular turns out to be completely bizarre and fascinating.

James Bond visits the grave of his wife Tracy from On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) and is shortly afterwards killed by Villain Blofeld who appeared for the first time in You Only Live Twice (1967), after previously appearing as a shadow in the series. This time, however, the name was not allowed to appear.

Due to a legal situation, the creators of In Deadly Mission were unable to use the name Blofeld, even though all external features point to the character. Worse still: After Blofeld over several films set up as Bond’s nemesis was simply disposed of carelessly in the opening sequence.

Ultimately, In Deadly Mission got the Bond series back on track and out of the Moonraker dead end. Such a step would also be good for action series like Fast & Furious. From film to film tries to outdo the series. Now the spectacle seems completely arbitrary and no longer has any grip.
